First Outfit, New Apartment!

First “Outfit of the Day” in my new apartment! It’s been a busy-busy time getting my place set up and prepared. My first weekend with all of my stuff moved in, I went to the beach. I don’t know how I wasn’t more stressed out. The mess and clutter was driving me insane. I watched ‘Minimalism’, a documentary on Netflix, and two shows on hoarding.

After throwing away more of my life, life I didn’t want and wanted to move passed, I was seeing the light in this moment. I decided to refigure all of my ikea furniture. I will have a few posts on this because I haven’t started two of them. One is fully complete! Slowly but surely, this turtle will finish the race.

The clutter could drive anyone mad, while moving. After work, everyday, there was some project that needed to be worked on. Moving some pieces into storage for my sister, painting, salvation army runs, trips to the hardware store or Lowe's. Endless.

My outfit was pretty simple. It was the first nice day in Seattle where the weather wasn’t working against us. Everyone was in spring/summer wear. My skirt is an easy throw on. It goes well wth black, white, the basic colors. Strangely enough, it also pairs well with other patterns. I’ll make a point to get an OOTD to show that. Though the skirt is old, it never fails to get compliments. It stands the test of time for fashion. Plus, the best part - comfort. I can eat anything I want in this skirt. Who can complain about that?

Top: Target - Black v-neck //Skirt: The Loft (old) // Flats: Tahari //
Necklace: Gorjana // Lipstick: Anastasia Beverly Hills - Kathryn

Shoes are my all time favorite flats. I wish I had bought another pair of them but, alas, didn’t know it would be love. I’m currently on the hunt for a few new pairs for this summer. If anyone has recommendations, please reach out!

Lipstick (promised I would let you know!) is, yet again, Anastasia Beverly Hills in Katheryn. Majority of my outfits are complimented by my everyday perfume: Florence, by Tocca.

Truly can’t believe it’s been a whole month in my place already! It’s really coming along. It’ll be fun to show you before and afters!

Red Lips and Gold Snakes

One of my favorite outfits is being brought to you by a trip to Nordstrom and the thrift store. This top is my go-to whenever I feel bloated or uncomfortable. It hides everything and is insanely roomy and makes me happy. That's it. End of post.

Seriously though, it's the greatest and almost the same colors as my eyes. It's paired with my go to Banana jeans, a Kut from the Kloth faux leather blazer (that I got at the thrift store. Score!), my fave nude pumps and child-approved gold snake necklace. It's not child safe but one of my friend's kids is obsessed with it and called me "cool" because he liked the ruby eyes.

As for make-up, which I am going to try and talk more about, I am wearing eyeshadows from my Tarte palette. I'm also wearing Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Matte lip in Kathryn. I darker shade for Spring but I think it balanced the look because of my light shoes.

Blazer: Kut from the Kloth (thrift find, almost identical, similar, cheaper) // Top: Pleione (old, similar) // Jeans: Banana Republic // Pumps: Nine West (in blue!) // Necklace: Forever21 (old, similar) // Lip: Anastasia Beverly Hills, Kathryn // Eyeshadow: Tarte Palette, Matte Palette

It's no surprise that these pump are going to be the next topic for this post. They've been posted many times before. My closet houses two pairs and I'm on the verge of buying a third because they give me height and make me stand up straight. They are by Nine West and are surprisingly pleasant for pumps. My testing has ranged from an 8 hour day to walking a quarter mile. They do the job and have held up nicely. There has yet to be an affordable pump that has topped these suckers.

Im in search for another pair of pumps. Let me know if you have suggestions!

WIW: Old Style, New Gig, Hair Twist

It's a great day when you can go back through your photos and relive the first few days of your new job. You know how you felt: excited, a little nervous, on day 4 hair.

After a quarter bottle of a dry shampoo and some hair magic, I felt human again. I had been moving boxes every night into my new place, at this point. Packing in the mornings and toting my life in the evenings. A great work out but exhausting. I was too excited to even care.

For my outfit I wore my favorite slouchy cardigan that I bought from Nordstrom Rack. I'm surprised I don't have more WIWs with it. My last post wearing it is here. I honestly throw it on all the time! Over anything and everything.

My favorite white top from anthropologie, black pants from Calvin Klein, booties from The Office (which I picked up on my last trip to London) and my gold beaded bracelet (which was a gift from one of my best friends, A, when we were in Cancun).

I love looking through these old pics on my phone. I should catch up quickly. Gosh, I love that green cardi!

Nordstrom Mascara Madness May 2017

3 Clinique Mascaras with Free Cosmetic Gift Bag Behind it

If you haven't heard, last Saturday was Nordstrom's Mascara Madness event. It's a sale specifically for mascara. It's a BOGO of buy 2, get 1 free.

Why is this such a big deal? Glad you asked! The sale is on any mascara in Nordstrom stores and you can mix & match. Which means, luxe designer mascaras are for grabs. Yves Saint Laurent, anyone?

For my three, I decided to stretch my dollar and go for what I know I'm not allergic to: Clinique. Long story, short - I have sensitive eyes to mascara. Most mascara causes my eyes to burn and water, which ends up with streaks down my face. So I went safe but mixed it up a bit!

The universe has blessed me with long thick lashes, that I love. However, with mascara they pop! Mascara is my go-to before my door closes. It completes any look.

3 Clinique Mascaras with Open Boxes

Here's what I went with:

Clinique High Impact Mascara - My go-to mascara. I've used this countless times and love it. Oil free and allergy-tested (like all Clinique's mascara products).
Clinique Chubby Lash Mascara - Key is in the brush. It's super volumizing and plumps lashes to make them "bodacious and bold".
Clinique Lash Power Mascara -  Tried this one out this morning. Description says it will last for 24 hours. I went 15 hours and I didn't have any residue under my eyes. Its a thin coat but it's definitely lengthening and it helped my eyes pop!

3 Clinique mascaras with free cosmetic bag and Nordstrom bag

For the record, I don't shop at the Clinique counter a lot. I'm a sephora gal through and through. It's my preference but mascara has been tricky lately. However, my experience was amazing.

First off, there was hardly any advertising for this promotion. Which is slightly disappointing. I found out through a sales associate because I happened to be looking at shoes when I over heard her telling another customer. I went back later after finding out from a co-worker that you can have Nordstrom hold your choices and they will ring your card up on the day of the event.

Naturally I went back to the counter, picked my choices, gave the woman my card and was informed that I could pick them up on Saturday or anytime after. Which worked out great because I was at the Oregon Coast this weekend.

What I wasn't expecting was the extra cosmetics bag filled with goodies! Here's the stitch, if you spend $28 at the Clinique counter, you get $70 valued bag!

Like - YASSS, please!

The Free Clinique Bag is filled with the following:
• Rinse-Off Eye Makeup Solvent (2 oz.)
• Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser (1 oz.)
• Sculptwear Lift and Contour Serum for Face and Neck (0.27 oz.)
• Long Last Lipstick in Bamboo Pink (0.12 oz.)
• Quickliner for Eyes Intense in Intense Ebony (0.01 oz.)
• Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara in Jumbo Jet (0.28 oz.)
• Cosmetics Bag

Next time I find out they will be having this sale, I will scream it from the sky for you. It should be happening in November, I believe. TBD for more information!

Travel: 15 Tips for a One Day Travel to Disneyland

Many of you have read my post about my One Day Trip to Disneyland last week. I had a ton of fun getting to see the park again. I hadn't been back since high school which is a lot longer than I'd like to admit to. I didn't remember it as much as I had thought and that's primarily because I'm used to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.

As mentioned in my previous post, I was in the park for approximately 11 hours straight and learned a lot about the ins and outs of the park. These are my biggest recommendations for you, your travel partner, or your family.

WIW: First Day at Nordstrom!

Mirror picture of the outfit I wore on my first day of work at Nordstrom
Coral Sweater - The Loft, via Value Village (simiar) // Black Tee - TJ Maxx // Wide Leg Pants - Anthropologie (similar) // Floral Scarf - JCrew (similar) // Brown Booties - Value Village

I moved to Seattle about 6 years ago. I never intended to stay, never intended to grow my career and never expected my dream to work at a fashion house would come true.

Last week I started my new job in old clothes. I didn't know what to expect, so I stuck with my basics and went for booties, wide leg pants and a button down. So profesh, right?

I soon realized there were many different types of styles at my new company. Those who really cared, those who are naturally trendy and set trends, those who really don't care and those who get by and follow the trends but keep their own style.

I'd like to think I'm the last group but it didn't take me long to start purchasing from the store once I was approved through HR. I've already purchased 3 tops and a pair of work out pants (review coming soon!).

Side mirror picture of my outfit, coral cardigan, wide leg pants and floral scarf

I wore these wide leg pants strictly for comfort. It's so interesting how our tastes change as we mature. I used to hate slacks and now I can't get enough of them. They're comfortable and I can get them hemmed because #adulting. Not something I thought was important growing up. It changes everything with the right length or even a heel height.

I bought these pant about 7 years ago. That's the truth! I bought them when I worked at Anthropologie in Florida when I was living paycheck to paycheck. They have been one of the best purchases of my life and have comes with me to 4 different states now.

My black tank top is nothing special. Bought at TJ Maxx a few years ago. My cardi is from The Loft and I got it at Value Village. I'm obsessed with the spring color but I will say I didn't feel like the sweater tied the outfit together without the scarf. Which, by the way, is from JCrew (bought last year).

I will probably never pair this cardi with my fave wide leg pants again. The color seems off but this is a blog for everyday women. I'm being honest and I think that's what this blog is all about.

I've got a few more outfits from this week I'll get up soon.

Till then, mon amies!

Travel: Disneyland in One Day

Pointing at Sleeping Beauty's castle wearing Mickey Mouse Ears with the name Allison on the back

Yesterday, my friend (H) and I went to Disneyland for 11 hours. Let's break down the agenda for you so I can remind myself of this in the future.

Night before: Full Dinner and bed by 8pm. Took a melatonin because I don't play games.
3:30am: Wake up call. Got dressed, did make up and hair, grabbed my mouse ears and my small Stella McCartney Adidas hiking bag.
4:15am: Leave apartment for the airport.
4:45am: Park at airport and head to security.
5:15am: Get past security and get coffee and fill up hydro flask.
6am: Flight out of Seatac and to LAX.
8:35am: Land at LAX, get off plane, bathroom break and change into shorts.
8:55am: Go to arrivals.
9am: Hail an uber.
9:45am: Arrive at Disneyland!
10am: Get through security and the gate.
10:01am: Come up with a plan and and get a locker.
10:10am: PLAY for 10 hours.
8:10pm: Go to Main Street for end of the night shopping.
9pm: Head out while the Electrical Parade begins.
9:10pm: Walk outside of park, hail an Uber.
9:45pm: Arrive at LAX & get through security.
10pm: Change back into pants and get snacks.
11:15pm - 11:55pm: Board plane, wait for passengers from another delayed flight.
Midnight: Take off.
3am: Land and go to car.
3:30am: Get home and sleep for 9 hours straight.

I'm going to go back to 10am, arriving at the gates of Disneyland, because this is where it gets a lot of fun. It's early and H and I had been awake for 6 hours already. We were dying for a snack but decided the first thing to do was take photos at the front of the park and then to calculate our hours and get our first fastpass of the day.

WIW: Off the Shoulder Casual Friday with Adidas Super Stars

Off the Shoulder Top - Thrift Find without a label (similar and similar) // Express - Point Knit Five Pocket Pant  // Adidas - Superstar Sneaker (White with Gold) // Marc by Marc Jacobs Watch - Green (sold out, similar and similar) //H&M - Biker Jacket  // Forever 21 - Scarf (old)

Holy Smoke-a-roonie! I am majorly behind on my WIW post to you guys. I have been all over the place as you can tell. In the past three weeks I have left my old job, started my new job AND moved across town from the East side to the West side. If you're interested in my move and new pad, you can check it out in my post: Hello Again, Queen Anne.

In my old job, I never dressed unprofessionally. I had my days where I walked in the door with adidas and a tee but I always tried to stay on trend. This is proof my normal, very easy, casual and yet stylish Friday. The shoulders are always covered at work but I love this top because it can come right down to be an off the shoulder for Happy Hour or a casual bar.

I love pairing this outfit with my faux leather H&M moto jacket I bought last year. I also added a scarf because it was particularly cold that morning. No necklace needed because of my exposed shoulder and, of course, I'm wearing my favorite Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lip. The shade is Crush and it's in my May beauty favorites this month because all I do is where this lip.

These are by far my favorite shoes that I own. You can where them with just about anything. You could pair them with a dress and a denim jacket and definitely pull it off. Note that for a future outfit.

Have a terrific weekend, friends! I'm off to Disneyland tomorrow so make sure to keep an eye out for my instagram updates. SO excited. It's like being a kid again.

New Job, New Home, New Life.

A lot of changes this month but I couldn't be more excited about my transitions. As you can see from this photo above (or via instagram), I got a new job. Though I will miss my old company like crazy, as I've worked for Allrecipes/Meredith for the past 4 years, it was time to learn something now. 4 years is a lot of time to give to one company but the people at this corporation makes time fly. My biggest pain is leaving all of the friends that have graced my life over the course of my career at AR.

After getting hired on at Nordstrom, everything began to happen so quickly. Life fell into place. No crazy panics or second guessing. I was looking to learn and grow, this position was presented to me. It's a huge honor to go from a large women's publishing network to a large fashion house. Dreams do come true!

Starting was very confusing since I didn't take time off in between jobs. I had a Monday off and all of my friends were at work so it just felt like I was taking a personal day. Alas, no.

Keep in mind, this has all happened rather quickly. I got an offer, gave my notice, found a new apartment, got said apartment, started my first day, got my keys last weekend, have been moving and learning since.

What can I say? I like change.

I think change is healthy and enpowering. It helps you get out of the day to day life and into the present. Nothing like throwing a total wrench in the mist of your entire life! For me, it effective.

After a mild panic attack attack on night, after I ate a bowl of pasta with a side of oxygen from a brown paper bag, I decided to take one day at a time. Then decided to celebrate!

One of my best friends and I are going to Disneyland! We both have had huge accomplishments this year and we decided we deserve a day of fun. I'll load up on the details in another post and write about the adventure afterward. I haven't been to this park since I was in high school!

To be able to afford this trip and to celebrate with a good friend makes me feel incredibly blessed. I try to be gracious and live in gratitude everyday but Saturday will be especially thankful. I plan to vast in the glory of life and be happy with out a thought of negativity.

As for the apartment, it's coming along!! I bought all new furnishing for the bathroom and many, many, many plants for the kitchen and dining area. It will be a full greenhouse by June.

What are you feeling blessed for today?

Beauty: May Beauty Favorites 2017 (Almost All Cruelty-Free!)

Makeup Bag - Ted Baker (old, similar here, here and here // Liquid Lipstick - Anastasia Beverly Hills in Crush // Eau de Perfume Roller Ball - Tory Burch // Lotion - Crabtree & Evelyn's Citron Honey & Coriander  // Agave Lip Mask - Bite Cosmetics // Eyeshadow Palette - Kat Von D Shadow + Light Contour Quad in Plum // Makeup Brushes - Amazon

Happy May, dear friends! I have had a great start to the month. I have definitely hit the ground running thus far so I want to share my favorite Beauty Items I used all of last month. I noticed a trend pretty quickly with almost all of my products and that is: The majority are cruelty-free.

Which put a little thought in mind. Maybe I should be better about my beauty products and what I stand for and only purchase products from cruelty-free businesses. I don't have animals. I also own a few leather jackets/vest and quite a few leather boots. Which makes me wonder why I am so keen on using cruelty-free products. Perhaps because I don't particularly see the need to do testing on animals. The though stresses me out, actually.

Hello Again, Queen Anne

Teal tiled Kitchen from Queen Anne, Seattle

Hi Everyone!

If you hadn't noticed by the photo above, I finally found a new place! It's exactly where I want to be in my favorite sector of Seattle, Queen Anne.

When I started my search at the end of last month I had a full list of apartment "must haves": a balcony, a dishwasher, an in-unit washer and dryer, modern look and the perfect location.

I toured around the city, checked out Ballard and Greenlake, even drove through Magnolia but nothing stuck with me like Queen Anne did.

My parents came into the city to tour a modern apartment with me. The place was way over my budget at the middle top of the hill and... I hated it. I couldn't understand why. It was everything I had said I had wanted, except the price. Then my Dad said "Al, I'm surprised you're looking at modern apartments. They're not really your style".

That's why he's my Dad. It always shocks me when he knows me better than I know myself.

The next place I toured felt like home immediately. There's no way to explain it. The energy of the complex felt happy and well loved. The people seemed mature and, even though it has a pink bathroom, the unit felt right. There's so much natural light!

I took one of my girlfriends to check it out with me. She asked all of the questions I always forget to ask: How much does the rent go up a year? How big is the water heater? Is it loud at night because of the street traffic? Etc.

Girlfriends are the best friends.

I viewed the whole complex in less than 30 minutes and asked for an application on the spot. It was the right fit. It's exactly where I want to be and the location is the most important part of moving. Especially when you feel safe and know the area.

The unit has carpet throughout, which I wasn't excited about but the price is right and it'll keep me nice and toasty in the winter. The kitchen has a beautiful teal tile from the 50s that I get more and more obsessed with every time I see it. There is so much storage that I don't think I own enough to fill it up. I have no excuse for a messy room from here on out.

A chandelier hanging in a rental apartment dining room

I'm so excited to begin this new journey in Queen Anne!

5 Zella Pants I'm Obsessed With

Left to Right: Camila Capris - Zella // To the Max Crop Leggings - Zella // Flash High Waist Leggings - Zella //
'Out and About' Crop Joggers - Zella // Spring Crop Leggings - Zella
This Spring is all about getting out of the slum (that was winter) and getting back into shape for Summer. While pursuing through Nordstrom this afternoon I went through the athletic department on the 4th floor of our downtown Seattle store. It's so beautiful in there. Sometimes my walks consist of going through every floor, dreaming and then taking the elevator back down before returning to work.

The inspiration on the floor was intense today. They have their standard Nike, Adidas, Puma displays out but one that caught my eye was Zella. Many of you might know that this is one of Nordstrom's private brands. All made specifically for their stores. I read an article on when they had acquired one of Lululemon's finest to come in and be the creative director on their Zella team back in 2009. Which is why Zella and Lululemon have similar sweat technology and style. Though, with Zella at a much more affordable price.

My love is strong for Zella considering their pants don't fall down on me mid run. They are comfortable, trendy and did I mention 'budget friendly'?? I'd love to hear others feelings on Zella products. What are your loves?

WIW: Pin Stripe Tank with Jeans and Target Cardigan

Stripe Tank - Marshalls (similar and cheaper similar) // Long Black Cardigan -  Target (similar) // Banana Republic Jeans - Petites (similar)  // Nine West Pumps - Handjive // Handmade Adventure Necklace

Staples in my wardrobe are as follows: Black Pumps, Quality Jeans and Black Cardigans. You can add in the accessories in between. These Nine West Pumps should not be a surprise to you as I wear them all the time. No joke, I own them in two different colors (black and tan) and I've got my eye on two more colors on Amazon. I love shoes but finding easy to wear and comfortable pumps can be difficult to find. These ones I swear by. I may consider doing a post later of all of the outfits I've worn these pumps with. So far you've seen my tan pair in "For the Love of Pearls and Joggers" and now my black pair with this ensemble.

My favorite accessory, besides my shoes, is my Aventurine necklace. Many confuse it with Jade. I think because you often see Jade in a round dish like mine. I chose Aventurine while out on a mini adventure a few months ago. I love healing stones and crystals and when this one jumped out at me while in a bead store at County Village Shops, well I had to have it. I bought a green leather rope to make a long necklace out of it.

Aventurine is often known as the "Stone of Opportunity". It's considered a lucky stone, which is why I also own a bracelet that I tend to wear with my rose quartz bracelet. Lucky in Love.  If you're interested in the stone, you can check out more info on CrystalVaults.

All the best this week!

Save or Splurge: Selena Gomez Everyday High-Waisted Jean Crops

Selena Gomez white cuff tee black jean crops

SPRING!!! For the love, guys. Doesn't 78 degrees of sunshine and partly cloudy skies sound like a dream come true? It does to me and that's what Selena Gomez's outfit in this post says as well.

How chic is this girl? Stepping out on to the streets with her dark denim, plain white cuffed tee and sunnies. The choker and slips are the finishing touch to her simplistic ensemble and pair oh-so-easily with her blue nails.

What I love about the outfit is how easy it was for her to probably put together. I wear black and white all the time. It's a staple. Add a lip and you're ready for Happy Hour! However, any arrangement of clothing can add up so I thought I would be a fun "Save or Splurge" since I really haven't done one since my Kendall Jenner Airport Style last year.
Save or Splurge Selena Gomez Style Nordstrom

This is such an easy replication. The price points on these are out of control for the splurge... it's a white cuffed tee! I honestly like the "save" tee better anyway. It looks so perfect and comfortable for a nice walk around Lake Union in Spring. I'm also obsessed with the nail colors.

What do you think about these "Save or Splurge" items?

Review: Brooks Running Greenlight Crops

There's an old tale that Seattleites tell transfers when they move to the city. Probably because they're dying for an excuse to allow their emo introverted personas to be acceptable. The tale normally begins with a question that turns into an apology and ends with the tale of woe. The story being that there is a Seattle freeze. That OG Seattle isn't very good at allowing people in and getting to know outsiders on more than a surface level.

I would say that this is true but I'm an annoying Oregonian who will talk to anyone so I appear to be unaffected by the dreaded curse of Seattle. A lot of transfers leave after their first year because of the "freeze" and also the lack of assurance that they can make it through another grey winter.

Now, why am I telling you this? It took me awhile to get acquainted with Seattle. For Seattle to accept me and become a true friend. Now I have many many local and transfer friends here. For that, I am so fortunate. One of my friends, that I met last year, works for Brooks Running Company. Brooks is a local company. It's a sports associated clothing company that generally specializes in running. It's out in Fremont, across from an infamous Fremont Brewery and the Burke-Gilman trail, which runs along the water.

My friend and I are the type of friends that don't need to spend money to have a good time. We're more than content meeting at Greenlake and walking around the track once or twice. We catch up and coach each others on our careers but our main common interest is working out and finding fun activities to do. Last week I met up with her to walk around the lake and she brought me a pair of Brooks Women's Greenlight Running Capris from work! What a great friend, right?

She calmed she went a bit crazy on products this year and was up to her ears in shoes, capris and sports bras and wanted to know how I liked the capris from their line this year. I told her I was so excited to try them out.

Three things off my list:
1) Local Products
2) Work Out Gear
3) REVERSIBLE (game changer)

The past few weeks have been kind of crazy but I wore them to our annual Field Day event at the Boys and Girls Club that I volunteer for. I also decided to test them out on the Earth Day 5k Magnuson Series I ran last week.

Where these capris are like .... ..... ... wearing nothing. There! I said it! Swear to you. Cross my heart! It's like wearing nothing on your legs. They're beyond comfortable. They don't fall down, like my lululemons do and they hold everything, from cards to phone. They're great! I ran all 3.15 miles during my 5k and the capris didn't phase me. Zero adjustments to be made. In the past I wore a pair of adidas to another series and they were riding up the whole time. These didn't move. AT ALL.

I will say that this is a 100% honest review. My friend isn't paying me and she didn't ask me to review them on behalf of her company. She doesn't even know I have a blog. So these are all my own thoughts on these pants and they are GREAT.

The pants I got came in black but according to their site, the others are reversible and some go from patterns to solids. So cool. I'm mildly obsessed with that. The fabric is really unique and I think it's due to their 4-way stretch. When you rub your hand on them, it's not completely smooth and yet they are. They're also some how soft to the touch. The wide power waist is great for keeping the pants from falling down and also give you tummy control. I love that it doesn't have a drawstring but also that it's got a 20' inseam so it doesn't look completely ridiculous on us petite gals.

In my book, these are a quality pair of capris and I'll be buying more of these in the future. They are a far better price point than Lululemon and they don't fall down. I am a curvy hips gal, as you know. I have a lot of slender friends who swear by Lulu's so that's just my personal opinion.

I love having such amazing friends that work for such cool companies.

Event: Earth Day 5k Magnuson Park Series, Seattle, WA

Today was a really fun considering how much I was dreading this run last week. About a month ago I thought to myself "...you need to get back on track with your fitness. You've been neglecting yourself."

This has to be something that happens to everyone, right? You wake up and suddenly you're just one takeout box heavier. Maybe two. Life is hard and we often need to remind ourselves that we're doing the best we can. When I get like this, generally it boils down to routine. For the past 3 weeks I've been waking up at 7am. I know I am trainable simply because I went to bed an hour early and woke up this morning at 6am... which is unfortunate, since it's Saturday.

As I was saying, last month I had a crazy idea and decided it would be a lot of fun to run a 5k every single month until September. Seeing how it goes, and try and do a full year. My personality is better with short term goals to hit an overall large goal. It's just how my persona works.

With that plan, my search for the perfect 5ks started. Then I began to wonder if my body would be able to handle a 10k. I've done a few 5ks in the past. There are so many competitors that go for the 10k, half, etc after running a few 5s. I know it's a mental game and it would be a challenge.

So, back to my tale: up early, preparing for a run I was unprepared for and, praying my car would start, I left the house. Didn't eat breakfast (my side will cramp) and didn't grab a bottle of water (lost my mind), I set out to Magnuson Park.

This is my second Magnuson Park race. My recommendation is to get there at least 25 minutes before the actual race begins. It's highly organized and everyone is very very friendly. It's a dog friendly and kiddo friendly series. Parents often have their children participate in the morning dash but others have their children run along side them or push them in strollers. It's family oriented. Who can complain about that?

My speed is slow. It's debatable if I am running or jogging. However, my goal today was to make the finish line before 35 minutes. By mile 2 my heart was pounding and my shins started burning. The inevitable happened, I had to walk to slow my heart rate down. I allowed myself a minute and a half and pushed on. Running the inside corners and on the left side on the straights. Somehow, I finished today at 33:07.

My victory? 1 banana, 1 pear, 1 cup of water and a Douglas Fir tree to plant in the beautiful spirit of Earth Day. It was the first time, in a long time, that I felt like I had earned my meal.  My calves were on fire as I walked it off and stretched against an aged tree. It was worth it. At that moment, I realized that I had accepted my challenge: once a month.
