Pumpkin Patches 2015 - Spooner Farms, WA

PUMPKIN PATCHES!

Let’s get real. They’re a favorite, right? This weekend I was supposed to go apple picking but this crazy state’s harvest was up and every single place I checked online had transitioned into their Fall Festival season. For those of you city folk, that’s really just a fancy term for “Apple picking is done, Summer is gone, Let’s welcome Fall with a pumpkin patch”.

I was luckily enough to grab a great friend of mine and head out towards Puallup. There’s an adorable little farm called Spooner Farms which is in Puyallup, WA. It’s a family owned and operated farm. They have every single type of squash imaginable! What is wonderful about this farm is that parking and entry are free. They do charge for the corn maze and, obviously, for their produce but you can walk around for hours and go to the petting barn for nothing. I ended up walking out with spaghetti squash and an scorn squash. I know, both which I could pick up at the grocery store but, again, I’m supporting my state and our local farmers by purchasing these ones! I didn’t get a pumpkin yet. I will, it’s just not time yet.

So many decision for that kid to make behind me... It's a hard life choosing your own tiny pumpkin.
There were tons of little kiddos out there in their Seahawks gear, being rolled around in barrels and sling shooting mini pumpkins into clowns mouths. It was a super family friendly area. It had terrific carnival style food truck grub. Huge batter fried polish corn dogs, ice cream, mini donuts and corn on the cobb. I was very good and didn’t have any but I will tell you that one of my all time favorite treats in life is corn on the cobb. YUM.  After walking around we walked through the general store and checked out their fudge, which I didn’t buy (I suddenly feel so boring) and their jams!

My friend bought a lovely Harvest Apple scented soy candle that was made in Oregon. Since we are both from Oregon, we felt it was our due diligence to represent our lovely state and she bought a candle. Guys, remember, I’m on a budget!  I will say though that my squash is going to go a long ways! I already found a terrific recipe for Sausage and Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash, which I’m going to have to make paleo. Why must they put dairy in everything? Stay tuned that will probably be a post for the future. I love spaghetti squash. I’ve recent turned my roommate into a lean mean spaghetti squash devouring machine. It’s a quick and easy way to cut the carbs down and pack yourself full of vitamins. Win/Win. I generally make an Italian sausage sauce but since I will be making my acorn squash with sausage, I’m going to sub for beef or shredded chicken. Who’s to know! I’ll try and make a post on that too.

One of my co-workers mentioned that I should be posting more of what I eat since I cook so much. I’ve been trying to bring my lunch in everyday. Day 1 and 2 are checked off. Let’s see if I can make it the full week, shall we?

 Anyways,photos are below!

Osman Spring 16' Line Favorites

I was browsing through some of London's fashion week photos and stumbled onto Osman's Spring Line and fell in love with the retro colors and vibes that are all through out it. I thought I would post some of my favorites from the collection for future inspirations. I love how the collections starts in black and white, then adds red and then just jumps into pastels and right back to black, red and white.

You know I love those go-go boots that are in the same print as the dress on the right of it. Such beautiful structures. I love how many different eras merge into one. Thoughts?

5 Ways to Stop Ennui

Ennui, gilmore girls, michelle, today I am suffering from ennui, gilmore girls gif, ennui gif, fir

This week has been pretty tough. I definitely felt the changing of the season beginning and, with my job, the start of Q4. For those of you in an sales related field, you know what I'm referring to.

Monday was a full work day, Tuesday I got dog sick, Wednesday I didn't even wear make up to work and by Thursday I was much better and back to my laughing self. However, something still lingers. I don't know if it's the Summer Blues or maybe the fact that I feel like I skipped September all together. It just feels a little... ennui.

There is so much happening in my life that I almost feel like I'm just walking through the motions these days. I want to pump the breaks just to breathe. So, I'm trying to carve out time for myself this week.

Behold, 5 Steps to being off-ui!

1) Take Time for Yourself: I know this seems silly but sometimes we all need to bast in our ennui time. I tend to watch a movie that makes me cry every time (Hope Floats, anyone?),  give myself a manicure/pedicure, watch Gilmore Girls, eat dessert and write in my journal.

2) Yoga: Truth Time. Yoga makes me feel better every single time. I've been practicing for quite a long time now. When I first started my mind would race about my class schedule, what I needed to pack for my weekend trip or how much laundry I have to do. Now, when I step into a studio I give myself that hour and a half to focus on my body. I listen to how it feels, to how I feel mentally and without fail, I feels refreshed and often ready for bed (if it's a PM class).

3) Volunteer: I'm in an organization that focus' on women in the Seattle Community. The committee within the organization that I'm apart of helps keep children active and educates families on the health hazards of child obesity in the city. Every month I get to volunteer at one of the Boys and Girls club and I help to keep those kids active. I get to jump rope with them, skip across a gym floor, anything old school PE related and it's wonderful. It's wonderful being able to put a smile on someone else's face and it's a great reminder of how fortunate my life is.

4) Friends and Family: I have three girls friends in this city that know how to make me laugh so hard I snort. Without fail, if I'm with one of these gal pals I'm on the floor laughing my butt off. Whether we're watching an episode of Sex and the City, out shopping or getting drinks, these girls knock me right off my ennui.

5) Church: Whether your church is nature, yoga or God, find time for it. Sometimes you just need a reminder of what to be thankful for or you just need a safe place where you can breath. A girlfriend of mine said "Seattle is my home but the outskirts is my church". She's happiest and most free in nature. Sometimes we really need to get away in order to come back as a whole.

So there you are! I'm going to go volunteer today and take a yoga class later.

In no time, You'll be off-ui!
